In the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match # 42nd England came out victories with 15 balls remaining. They beat one of the hosts West Indies by 8 wickets. Before the Super Eights, England were looking a little shaky however as the tournaments progresses they seem to have found their rhythm back.
In the beginning, England won the toss and decided to field first. West Indian openers Brandon King and Johnson Charles gave a nice start and managed to take the score to 40 runs in quick succession before Brandon king got retired hurt. However, this did not prevent the WI team from going after the England bowlers and they continued to score runs with the rapid pace. Although, none of the west Indian batsmen reached to 50 runs mark yet with the help of 38 runs from Charles, 36 runs each from Nicholas Pooran and the captain Rovman Powell, they secured a fighting 180 runs total. Towards the end of their innings the efforts of Sherfane Rutherford for 28 runs in 15 balls can not be ignored. From the England side, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali, and Liam Livinstons picked one wicket each.
England started their innings in the similar fashion that they are known for. Phil Salt and the skipper Jos Buttler hit the west Indian bowlers all around the park. At the end of 6 over power play, England were 58 for no wickets. When Jos Buttler got out for 25 runs in 7.4 overs, they were at 67 runs. Phil Salt continued the assault from his side and scored a match winning knock of 87 runs in 47 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes. Jonny Bairstow also showed his class and managed to score a quick 48 runs knock in just 26 deliveries. So, England beat West Indies by 8 wickets and Phil Salt was named the player of the match for his stunning efforts of 87 not out.
