In the Asia Cup T20 contest between India and Nepal, India Women conquer Nepal Women in Women’s Asia Cup 2024. Indian Women were right on top of Nepal throughout the match. They not only scored a big total on the board but also bowled them out so quickly and won the match by 82 runs. Shafali Verma was declared the player of match award for her outstanding knock of 81 runs in just 48 balls with 12 fours and 1 six.
India Women Innings
Indian captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and elected to bat first. Shafali Verma and Dayalan Hemalatha gave them a solid start and they built a 122 runs partnership. Safali scored 82 runs and Hemalatha scored a 47 runs in 42 balls with 5 fours and 1 six. After Hemalatha got departed in 14th over, Sajeevan Sajana came to bat but could not much and she got out on 10 runs in 12 balls with 1 four.
Post that it was a treat to watch Jemimah Rodrigues. She played some superb shots and in 15 balls she scored 28 runs with 5 fours and remained nout out. She was well supported by wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh † who contributed with unbeaten 6 runs in 3 balls with 1 four. So in 20 overs Indian innings ended at 178 for 3 and the target for Nepal Women was 179 runs.
Nepal bowling was below par and could not restrict Indian Women from scoring runs and playing big shots. Only Sita Rana Magar showed some fight and took 2 wickets for 25 runs in her 4 overs. Kabita Joshi also took one wicket of Sajeevan Sajana but she was quite expensive. In her 4 overs she gave 36 runs.
Nepal Women Innings
Nepal Women’s batting was all over the place and not up to the Asia cup standards as they kept playing lose shots and losing wickets. They lost their first wicket in second over and then they kept on losing wickets in regular intervals. Their top scorer was Sita Rana Magar who score 18 runs in 22 balls with 3 fours. Lower-middle order player Bindu Rawal scored 17 runs in 19 balls with 2 fours. Rubina Chhetry and the Nepal skipper Indu Barma contributed with 15 and 14 runs respectively. Their innings ended on 96 runs for 9 wickets.
Indian bowling was right on money and they did not let the Nepal Women settle on the wicket. They were not giving the runs away and kept on taking wickets as well. Deepti Sharma took a 3-fer, Radha Yadav and Arundhati Reddy took 2 wickets each. Renuka Singh also contributed with 1 wicket.
